Strategy begins with understanding what needs to move: people, ideas, or decisions.

Philosophy

Good communication begins with understanding.

I believe communication works best when it starts with the audience. What do they know? What do they need to know? What will help them make sense of the information in front of them? For me, clarity comes from answering those questions before deciding what to say.

About Malkia

I’m a communications and marketing strategist originally from the U.S. Virgin Islands. For more than 15 years, I’ve helped shape how organizations communicate with the people they serve.

I hold a B.A. in English and Mass Communications from the University of the Virgin Islands and an M.A. in International Public Relations and Global Communications Management from Cardiff University in Wales.

My education sharpened my instincts as a writer and communicator. Studying and working across different environments broadened the way I think about audience, culture and perspective. That global outlook continues to shape how I communicate with diverse audiences and adapt messages without losing clarity or intent.

Making information clear, shaping communications strategy and helping organizations navigate change all require curiosity, precision and an appreciation for the people on the other side of the message. Over the course of my career, I’ve learned that the strongest communications are rarely about saying more. They are about knowing what matters, finding the clearest way to express it and understanding how the message will be received.

How I
Approach
the Work

01

Understand the environment.

Who needs to know what, and what is influencing how they receive it?

02

Find the throughline.

Complex organizations generate a lot of information. Strategy means determining what actually matters.

03

Make it useful.

Communication should help someone understand, decide, participate, trust or act.

08

Good work often starts with a conversation.

I’m always open to connecting with recruiters, consulting clients, prime contractors and fellow professionals.
